The Wonder That Is Kyshona

I was privileged to attend a marvelous show last weekend when Kyshona opened for Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at The Tabernacle in Atlanta.

Kyshona

I was introduced to Kyshona almost five years ago in Nashville, where she played to an AmericanaFest audience of around 30 people. It was a joy to see her perform in front of 2,400+/- people at this show. Yes, people (other than I) were there to see Jason, but they left as a new fan of hers.

Kyshona

Kyshona has a soft-spoken yet commanding presence on stage. Despite being solo at this performance (she also tours as a trio and that is how I have seen her most recently over the past two years),she had the audience in her hands. She has a new album releasing later this month, and she explained that the songs were written after doing much genealogical research into her ancestors.

Kyshona

Her new single from the upcoming album, ‘The Echo‘, is available for listening here (but please buy the new album Legacy when it is released on April 26).

Kyshona

An extensive East Coast tour is starting toward the end of this month, and I want to encourage you to catch one (or more) of her shows in a city near you. Be prepared to shout out your ‘nighttime animal’ when she asks for it!

Kyshona

Thanks to Jason Isbell for having mostly women of color open for his shows for the past few years.

Ticket courtesy of Kyshona; all opinions are my own.
