“…the Nashville troubadour has been MAKING GRIPPING MUSIC FOR A LONG TIME. ‘When the Deal Goes Down’ is as fine a showcase as you’ll find for his storytelling prowess and musical range. Olney ROCKS WITH BLISTERING INTENSITY… BUT HE ALSO MESMERIZES” (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
“…There’s a LIVED-IN AUTHENTICITY to [David Olney’s] voice that is beyond so many of the young pretenders around these days. Beneath the gruff exterior lies a big heart capable of tenderness…HE IS THE REAL DEAL.” (Exclaim Magazine – Toronto, Ontario, Canada )
International recording artist, legendary performer-songwriter, streamcaster and – now – actor David Olney is performing in support of his 2014 album “When The Deal Goes Down” (Deadbeet Records, Produced by Mark Robinson). You may have heard David Olney’s “Postcard from Mexico” song used multiple times during pivotal scenes in the ABC-TV “Nashville” program, thanks to Mr. Buddy Miller. You also may have heard David’s songs as recorded by Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Del McCoury, Tim O’Brien, Kane/Welch/Kaplin and many others! Perhaps you’ve witnessed his current collaborations on-the-road (and some, on-record) with Dave Alvin, Mary Gauthier, Anne McCue, Will Kimbrough, Tom Russell and Malcolm Holcombe — or caught a bit of the buzz about his Shakespearean acting début in The Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s 2014 production of “As You Like It” for which he also composed several original, contemporary Americana-flavored songs earning him the title of “Nashville’s answer to The Bard.” Never missing a beat, the 67-year-old has continuously streamcast his weekly “You Never Know” video posts on his website and on YouTube for nearly eight years running.
