I’m With Her, a trio composed of Aoife O’Donovan, Sarah Jarosz, and Sara Watkins, has been announced for the 2019 season of the Lowell Summer Music Series (okay, Sara Watkins appeared at the Series with Nickel Creek at one of that band’s last shows). They will appear at Boarding House Park on Friday, July 19th! I have seen this band several times and I think they are a fabulous addition to the lineup.
This was my second year attending the five-year-old Freshgrass Festival, held annually on the grounds of Mass MoCA in the Berkshires. Everything about this Festival is terrific, from the music to the crowd to the food vendors to the setting. This year, the weather was perfect as well – and included a rainbow that appeared auspiciously during Vieux Farka Touré’s ethereal set.
I was able to see every set because the set times are staggered. I love that I do not have to make choices about which act to see when. Please make sure to look at the gallery of photos at the end of this review.
Week 6 started off with a fabulous double announcement!
This week’s additions to the lineup are:
Conor Oberst – an incredible songwriterm with Dawes as his backing band
Dawes – a fabulous band from California, doing their own set as well as backing Conor Oberst
Aiofe O’Donovan – wonderful singer-songwriter who I’ve had the privilege to see a number of times
Reignwolf – a bluesman who was named one of the ten artists we need to know by Rolling Stone magazine
Rodrigo y Gabriela – rhythmic guitarists from Mexico who I missed due to a conflict at their recent Boston show
The lineup, so far, includes:
Friday: The Devil Makes Three, Band of Horses, Death Vessel, Jenny Lewis, Phox, Robert Hunter, Reignwolf
Saturday: Shakey Graves, The Oh Hellos, Benjamin Booker, Nickel Creek, Shovels and Rope, Houndmouth, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, The Milk Carton Kids, Aoife O’Donovan
Sunday: Hurray for the Riff Raff, Mavis Staples, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Trampled by Turtles, Gregory Alan Isakov, Lucero, Caitlin Rose, Conor Oberst, Dawes, Rodrigo y Gabriela
