The Newport Folk Festival Announces Interesting Newcomers
This week almost all the additions to the Newport Folk Festival lineup are artists who are completely unfamiliar to me so I know I will get to hear lots of cool new music this year!
An Amazing Start To An Incredible Festival
What an auspicious start to the most incredible music experience I think I have ever had! I have read comments by many who felt that this was the best Newport Folk Festival they have attended, and I am quite inclined to agree. The rainbow over the bay says it all…
One of the most beautiful things about this Festival is hearing bands that become my new favorite band. Of course, there are a number of bands that are my new favorites! The Festival in general, and Jay Sweet in particular, do right by those of us who place our faith in them to find acts we will love.
More Great Additions to the Newport Folk Festival Lineup
Week 7 started off with a fabulous announcement, as has every week before this week!
This week’s additions to the lineup are:
Jimmy Cliff – wonderful reggae artist who I’ve not seen perform for a long time
Willie Watson – a singer-songwriter who is on the rise with his solo career (he was with Old Crow Medicine Show)
Puss n Boots – a new collaboration but Norah Jones is a member
Lucius – an indie pop-rock band that I’ve been interested to see for a while
The lineup, so far, includes:
Friday: The Devil Makes Three, Band of Horses, Death Vessel, Jenny Lewis, Phox, Robert Hunter, Reignwolf, Jimmy Cliff
Saturday: Shakey Graves, The Oh Hellos, Benjamin Booker, Nickel Creek, Shovels and Rope, Houndmouth, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, The Milk Carton Kids, Aoife O’Donovan, Willie Watson, Puss n Boots, Lucius
Sunday: Hurray for the Riff Raff, Mavis Staples, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Trampled by Turtles, Gregory Alan Isakov, Lucero, Caitlin Rose, Conor Oberst, Dawes, Rodrigo y Gabriela
