Shows Announced Over the Past Week

This wasn’t a very big week for announcements of new shows. Maybe I should say that not many new shows caught my attention.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band at The Narrows Center for the Arts – Wednesday, November 20

Roseanne Cash at The Narrows Center for the Arts – Thursday, December 12

Taj Mahal at The Narrows Center for the Arts – Thursday, February 13

Johnny Clegg at Somerville Theatre – Friday, April 4

Joe Bonamassa at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom – Friday, May 16

Last week, I mentioned Josh Ritter at the Somerville Theatre. This show appears to be close to selling out.

I’m going to talk about the Narrows Center for the Arts since three of the four new shows are at that venue. The Narrows in on the top floor of a three-story former mill building in Fall River, Massachusetts.  It’s a 280-capacity general admission venue. The sound system is quite good in this intimate setting. I’ve never been there during the summer, but it was not air conditioned until they raised the funds to install it this year.  There are a few artists’ studios at the rear of the room which are frequently open for sales during shows.

I have not seen a lot of shows there, but every one I’ve seen has been wonderful. The schedule is diverse enough that everyone should be able to find a show that interests them.

I would attend more shows there if it wasn’t a 65-minute drive with no traffic. Weekday shows are pretty much out of the question for me, although I’d make an exception for an act I couldn’t see closer to Boston or on a weekend night.

About suze72

I've loved the arts all my life... I go to a lot of concerts, take lots of photos and want to share them. Every once in a while I do something other than a concert, too. The Boston area is full of opportunities to indulge my passion - I'd like to help make it yours too!
