More Hot Music At Green River

I woke up on the last day of the Green River Festival eager for more music – the previous day was so terrific that I needed more! Unfortunately it was a scorcher of a day and that caused me to not want to walk around more than necessary; all that meant was that I missed acts I wanted to see but still saw amazing acts.

Best Concerts of 2013

The time has come for me to reflect on the 128 concerts I attended in 2013 and determine the top ten. It was an extremely difficult task this year because I saw so many excellent shows.

I laid one ground rule for myself. I did not include sets at festivals for one main reason – there is generally a lot more energy at a festival than at a ‘regular’ concert and the musicians feed off that energy which produces a better show. Also, at festivals musicians from other bands tend to sit in with the act on stage so one is not always seeing the band as they typically perform. Read the rest of this entry

Preservation Hall Jazz Band Going Very Strong After 51+ Years

Wow, Preservation Hall Jazz Band gave us an incredible show at The Sinclair on Tuesday night! This show, presented by Grain Audio, was the fourth time I’ve seen the band in the past two years and it was quite possibly the best I’ve seen them.

Yes, I saw the band’s 50th anniversary show in January 2012 at Carnegie Hall in New York from sixth row center and it was amazing, but there was something about the energy in Tuesday night’s audience that made the band soar even higher than they normally do.
