One of the aspects of the Extended Play Sessions at The Alternate Root TV that I am most enjoying is the introduction of new artists to me. Amelia White and Sergio Webb are two such artists.

I am starting to learn about the Nashville – and more particularly East Nashville – music scene because that is one of the places where a lot of amazing new music is being made.

As I have written, if you asked me ten years ago what kind of music I did not enjoy, country music would have been one of those genres. What I have realized is that I love much country music, but I do not like nasal voices singing songs that I call the my-dog-died-and-I’m-so-blue style.

Amelia’s music bears no resemblance to the country music I dislike. Not only is her voice beautiful but her songs are smart and full of honest emotions.

She appeared in support of her recent release, ‘Old Postcard’, and played a number of songs from it. They speak in part to her relationship with her parents and how it has and continues to evolve. I suspect everybody could relate to the experiences of which she sings in some respect.

I particularly enjoyed the title song and ‘Daddy Run’ from the recent release. Both songs evoke images I can see in my mind’s eye, which (to me) is proof of great song writing.

Playing guitar and providing some backing vocals was Sergio Webb. What a fabulous guitarist he is! I had the privilege of sitting directly in front of him; it was amazing to watch his fingers move seemingly effortlessly across the strings to produce such gorgeous sounds.

When I spoke with Sergio after the set, he told me he plays with Amelia because he loves her music. What better reason than that could there be for a session musician to tour with another musician, playing her music and putting 5,000 miles on their vehicle?

Amelia has been playing and writing music since she was quite young; I sense that it was her way to express herself freely.

I hope Amelia and Sergio, together or separately, come back to the Boston area soon because I want to see them perform more great songs.
