An Evening Of Singer-Songwriter Bliss
How lucky was I to be able to attend a house concert presented by the fabulous songwriter Laurie Sargent! And to be able to walk to it!

Laurie Sargent
I walked into the house and was immediately greeted by long-time friends and fans of Laurie, and thought that was a good sign.
I knew Laurie’s name but was not familiar with her music. She fronted a Boston-based new wave/pop band in the 1980s called Face to Face, but I was not living in the area at the time and did not know them. After that came a solo career and Twinemen (an alternative rock band with former members of Morphine and Face to Face).

Laurie Sargent
Laurie did two sets. The first she did solo, just her voice and her electric guitar. She performed material from her two most recent albums in the first set.

Laurie Sargent
One song was ‘Tractor’, a love song to a tractor! I am fairly certain I have never heard a song that has Kubota, John Deere, Caterpillar, and other tractor manufacturers!

Laurie Sargent
Laurie is an animated performer who clearly loves what she does. Now living in Montana, she returns to Boston on a sporadic basis to give her fans their fix!

At the end of the first set, Laurie told us she would use the break to finish writing a couple of the songs on the set list for the second set! I was extremely impressed that she and Ian Kennedy, who would play guitar during the second set, could write under that kind of pressure. It proved to me how professional they are!

Laurie Sargent
I knew Ian’s name but had never heard him play and he’s terrific!

Ian Kennedy
Laurie sang while Ian provided the guitar. They clearly have a musical chemistry that I enjoyed.

I was not taking notes, and thus cannot include poignant lyrics. Suffice it to say that these songs are absolutely worth hearing when they are released on an album.

This was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday night – hearing great music, meeting new people, meeting a friend in person for the first time, drinking wine, and not having to look for parking!

Thanks to LD for the ticket; all opinions are my own.
