Sad News For Live Music Fans

Us fans of live music have been hit almost every day with sad news regarding the effect of coronavirus on live cultural events. Many have affected me deeply – the cancelation of the 2020 Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals, the 2020 Green River Festival, and the 2020 Rhythm and Roots Festival in Rhode Island. The news I share today is hitting me hard, even though I expected the announcement.

I first went to a concert at the Lowell Summer Music Series in 2003 although I had been to the Lowell Folk Festival a number of times before then. Everything about the Series warmed my heart. I will miss the music and camaraderie, but I will see you all there in 2021!

The full press release is below.

Dear Friends,

The past two months have been an unprecedented disruption of our lives. When considering the upcoming season for Lowell Summer Music Series, the health and safety of our audience, crew and volunteers comes first. Large gatherings are not in the cards for this summer given the need for social distancing.

Unfortunately, with that bring said, the decision has been made to postpone the entire 2020 Lowell Summer Music concert series, as well as the Free Fun For Kids events.

Lowell Summer Music Series staff is in the process of rescheduling shows for the 2021 season. While best efforts are being made to reschedule all performances, some may be cancelled outright. All ticket buyers will be notified with updates to show status in the coming weeks.

All ticket buyers will be contacted via email on a show-by-show basis as information becomes available. We ask for your patience in the coming weeks as we work through this process.

If a show is rescheduled for the 2021 season, all current ticket purchases will be valid for the new date. Ticket holders who can’t attend the new date will have the option to donate the cost of their ticket purchase to the non-profit music series or receive a full refund.

For performances that can’t be rescheduled and are cancelled, ticket holders will have the option to donate the cost of their ticket purchase to the non-profit music series or receive a full refund.

The postponement of the 2020 Season represents a significant impact on the finances of this nonprofit series. 75% of our income is earned from ticket sales, merchandise and food sales. To sustain this wonderful nonprofit music series, we are asking for your help to continue to present great entertainment under the stars in the heart of the Lowell National Historical Park by making a donation today.

We will miss our evenings with you this summer and will look forward to when we can all be together for some great music in the summer of 2021!

Thank you,

Peter Aucella
