Three Powerhouse Guitarists Amazed At The Narrows
I was a very lucky person to be able to see the first of the David Bromberg, Larry Campbell, and David Hidalgo shows which was held at The Narrows Center for the Arts recently.
I apologize that my photos are not as good as usual; there were a lot of mics on stage that proved tough to shoot around.
My First Day at the Freshgrass Festival
Where do I start about a day when I heard thirteen different bands (I know, there were 14 bands that day but I ended up leaving before the headliner started)?
As I wrote in my initial thoughts on the Freshgrass Festival, this is a well curated festival, featuring bluegrass, newgrass, psychograss, country, and everything in between. Some acts were well-known, such as Sam Bush and The Infamous Stringdusters, while others were not as well-known, like Cricket Tell The Weather and The Deedle Deedle Dees. What a fantastic festival! Read the rest of this entry

This show at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy was Béla and Abby and their banjos, and it was a stunner! (Sorry, photography was not allowed; I am seeing them again in a few days, so I will probably upload some photos from that show here.) Read the rest of this entry
‘In Spite of the Devil’ Spuyten Duyvil Soared
Spuyten Duyvil is a section of Bronx County, New York; it is also the name of a New York-based American roots band that roared into an Extended Play session at Alternate Root TV recently.
I was excited to see this band because their music seemed to be right up my favorite alley. I felt the energy that emanates from one of their publicity photos, and their live show supported that feeling.
Great Evening of Toe-Tapping Music
I love bluegrass music! There, I said it… I went to Club Passim tonight to hear Laney Jones, a young bluegrass banjo/ukelele/harmonica player who writes all her own material, who was opening for Nora Jane Struthers.
They each perform different styles of bluegrass/Americana, but their styles mesh well for a double-bill show. Read the rest of this entry
