Get Your Dancin’ Shoes On!
We all need to cut loose a bit every once in a while and just enjoy music and friends for the pure joy of…well, music and friends!
The Get Right Band is returning to The Fallout Shelter at The Extended Play Sessions on Monday, October 19th!
What Is Hip? Tower Of Power, That’s What!
I am sure it was with reluctance that the first appearance of Tower of Power at the Lowell Summer Music Series was moved indoors due to inclement weather. TOP, as they are known, is a dance band and the indoor space is not as conducive to dancing as Boarding House Park.
Still, TOP brought much so energy and talent to the stage that evening that, in the long run, nobody minded sitting in a high school auditorium.
Funk/Reggae Rocked The House!
This was not the first time The Extended Play Sessions hosted The Get Right Band, a funk/reggae/rock trio from Asheville, North Carolina, so we knew to expect a dance party. Little did we know that more people would be on their collective feet for most of the show!
As I write this, knowing the band will return in the fall for a third show, I feel that The Get Right Band is our ‘house’ band. We are all comfortable with one another and that is evident in their performance.
Start The Summer Off With The Get Right Band!
The Extended Play Sessions American Roots Music Television announced the return of funk-jam masters The Get Right Band, who will be in the studio for a Session on Sunday, May 24th at 7 pm. I saw this band the last time they were at the Sessions and they were a blast!
Come share some fabulous music and friendship at this Session! Read the rest of this entry
A Little Funky Music Never Hurts!
Somehow it seemed appropriate that the last Extended Play Session of 2014 brought in the funk! The studio guest that night was the funk rock reggae band, The Get Right Band, all the way from Asheville, North Carolina. Just before the holidays went into full swing, we were treated to some hip-shaking fun.
The studio was packed to the gills which made it a little difficult to shake shake shake as much as we wanted, but I saw some serious chair-dancing happening! Read the rest of this entry
Serious Funk and Sweet Soul Music Ruled the Night
By now my regular readers should know how much I love music from New Orleans, so the fact that I went to see Galactic at the House of Blues should not be a surprise.
Galactic has been around for twenty years. The core group is five musicians with a revolving cast of guests. On this tour, they have Maggie Koerner singing and Corey Henry playing trombone. Read the rest of this entry
Trombone Shorty, Long on Talent
Admittedly, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue is one of my favorite musicians, live or recorded. I have been following him for at least four years and this was his first headlining show in Boston! You know I bought tickets the day they went on sale…
His brand of New Orleans funk is wonderfully engaging both to listen to and to watch.
