Seminal Jazz Guitarist John Abercrombie Enthralled

I knew John Abercrombie‘s reputation but had never seem him perform, so I jumped at the opportunity to see him at Regattabar last weekend.

Yowza, What an Incredible Jazz Fusion Show!

It has been a long time (nearly 40 years) since I have seen the incomparable jazz drummer Billy Cobham perform his own music, so I was more than ready to enjoy his show at Regattabar last night. Not only did I enjoy the show, but I was in awe of the performances.

Billy played with Ron Carter when I saw Ron’s show six months ago; as Billy stated, that was fun but this night would be most special for him because the band would be playing his (and his band members) music. Special indeed!

Simon Phillips, A Jazz Fusion Powerhouse

I love it when I go to a show not really knowing the artist (therefor having no expectations), and having my mind blown. That happened last night with Simon Phillips on his Protocol II tour stop at Scullers Jazz Club.

My friend asked if I wanted to see this show; since I wasn’t familiar with Simon’s name (although I of course know Toto, the band he’s probably best known for), I listened to a clip of his music. It took me less than 30 seconds of listening to know that I needed to see this show.
