This week of Newport Folk Festival announcements started with an excellent one! So far, there are a couple of bands that I’ve wanted to see for a while but have missed either due to conflicts or selling out before I bought a ticket. Now I’ll have my chance!

This week’s additions to the lineup are:

The Devil Makes Three – an Americana band based in California

Shakey Graves – an Austin native singer-songwriter

Thao & The Get Down Stay Down – folk-rockers based in San Francisco (I will admit to not being excited about this band – I saw them a year ago and would have left early but I was driving and the friend I was with did not want to leave – but I’m open-minded and might give them another chance depending on who else is playing on another stage at the sme time)

The lineup, so far, includes:

Friday:  The Devil Makes Three, Band of Horses, Death Vessel, Jenny Lewis

Saturday:  Shakey Graves, The Oh Hellos, Benjamin Booker, Nickel Creek, Shovels and Rope, Houndmouht

Sunday:  Hurray for the Riff Raff, Mavis Staples, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down

What interesting announcements this week from Newport Folk Festival! Four acts were announced and I only know two of them – and one of those two is merely a name I recognize.

The acts are:

Benjamin Booker – a New Orleans based singer-songwriter

Death Vessel – Rhode Island based

The Oh Hellos – a little bit of Texas

Band of Horses – I’m excited about this act because their show next week in Somerville, Massachusetts sold out before I could get tickets!

Newport Folk Festival Starts Rolling Lineup Announcements

I’m a relative newcomer to the Newport Folk Festival. The first year I attended was 2012 and I think it will be a part of my life for years to come.

Last year (I believe), NFF decided to do rolling announcements of the lineup rather than announcing the entire lineup at the same time. It’s part frustrating (because I want to know NOW) but mostly exciting (who’s going to be announced NEXT).

First Rocktober Show!

I had heard that The Ballroom Thieves are a good rock band disguised as a folk band, which proved to be an accurate description of them.

They are a young, Boston-based band with a CD and an EP under their belts and I was excited to see them at The Sinclair, a small-ish venue I enjoy. Read the rest of this entry
