The On Stage! Series at The Chevalier Theatre was an ideal venue to host the incredible Shun Ng and the Shunettes on a lovely winter evening. This series seats around one hundred people at cloth-covered tables on the stage along with the musicians.
I am extremely familiar with Shun and his superb guitar playing, but have only seen him with the Shunettes (Deon Mose and Angel Chisholm) a couple of times (including a very cold New Year’s Day outdoor show). I am almost at a loss for words to describe the power of these artists.
I started 2017 with a couple of excellent shows. Boston’s First Night celebration continued into First Day at Copley Square with Bradley Bartlett-Roche, also known as Boston’s Piano Kid. He was followed by Shun Ng and the Shunettes and then by Ruby Rose Fox. Then I meandered to The Plough and Stars to see Sarah Levecque. What a great start to my concert adventures version 2017!
I first saw Shun Ng perform early last year at a show that was called An Afternoon of Extraordinary Guitars. That moniker did not overstate the talent on stage that day, so I eagerly anticipated seeing him at The Extended Play Sessions with Magic Dick, the harmonica player with the J. Geils Band.
