Amy Helm Rocked Kai’s Music Garden!
Amy Helm is one of my very favorite musicians, so I was thrilled when she announced a show at Kai’s Music Garden which is only a half hour drive for me. I was probably the first person to buy a ticket!
If you do not know Amy, you should. She is one of the most engaging and talented performers making music today. She is also a genuinely warm person who loves connecting with her fans; I have spoken with her a number of times and while she might not always remember my name, she remembers where we spoke!
It was another amazing night under the stars at Kai’s. Different players comprised Amy’s band, the Handsome Strangers, at this show and they supported her well.
One of my favorite parts of Amy’s shows is when the musicians gather around an old-timey mic to perform, and this show was no different.
Her music has elements of soul, funk, blues, and folk (and probably others) that combine so well.
Opening the show were Micah Scott Project and Sam Meador, Florida-based musicians whose names I see regularly on the schedules of other venues, but this was my first time seeing either of them. It will not be my last!
I hope Amy returns to Kai’s soon!
