Ever since the first time I saw The Oh Hellos at Newport Folk Festival, I try to see them whenever they are in town (wherever my current town may be), so I was delighted when they announced a show at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale!
I was even more delighted when a band to whom they introduced me several years ago in Boston, Family and Friends, was announced as the opener!
The first round of lineup announcements was made today and it’s killer! Some friends as well as personal favorites are on the list and I know many of the others will become artists I adore!
Some of those friends/favorites are: Alejandro Escovedo, American Aquarium, The Black Lillies, Chance McCoy, Dom Flemons, Lindsay Lou, Lula Wiles, Mary Gauthier, Hayley Thompson-King, and Shemekia Copeland, and Sons of Bill.
The text of the press release follows.
One of the things I love most about owning this website (although I honestly love EVERYTHING about owning it) is that I am introduced to artists I might never come across. Canadian David Myles is one of those artists.
I do not always receive music that I thoroughly enjoy as much as I enjoy Myles’ album.
The Americana Music Association announced today that Robert Cray, Iris DeMent, Hi Rhythm, Graham Nash, HighTone Founders Larry Sloven and Bruce Bromberg and previously announced Van Morrison will be honored during the Americana Music Association’s℠ 16th Annual Honors & Awards on Wednesday, September 13th at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville!
I had the opportunity to cover a fabulous show recently at The Chevalier Theatre On Stage! Series at which the members of all three Americana bands are friends! I have seen each band perform a number of times, but this triple bill was a rare chance to see them in one show.
The On Stage! concert series at the Chevalier Theatre in Medford, MA is pleased to welcome a triple-bill of the Boston-area’s finest Americana performers: Honeysuckle, Aurora Birch and Damn Tall Buildings on Saturday, May 13th at 8:00 pm.
This is a wonderful intimate experience and will be a great way to celebrate spring! I know all three bands quite well and am excited to see them all in one show. Everyone needs to come to this show!
I was lucky enough to see The Texas Gentlemen and Friends at Newport Folk Festival this year; they delivered one of my favorite sets of the Festival. The Gentlemen are a collaborative of Texas musicians, one of whom is guitarist Kirby Brown.
I spoke with Kirby later that day and then ran into him and several other Gentlemen at the Americana Music Association Festival and Conference a couple of months later. I am now the lucky recipient of his new EP Out of Exile 1 and I love it!
