An Emotionally Rich Performance By Guy Davis
Every once in a while I see a show that truly takes away my breath, be it by the power of the music, the lyrics, or both, or by the passionate intensity of the musicians. Guy Davis who performed at The Extended Play Sessions recently delivered one of those shows in all those respects.

I arrived early and was treated to part of the sound check/rehearsal, which lasted until doors opened. After the first few notes, I was hooked (lucky me, I was able to hear even more of his fabulous music).

Started The New Year Right With Girls Guns & Glory
New Year’s Day for me equals Girls Guns & Glory’s tribute to Hank Williams, the great country singer and songwriter who died on that day in 1953 at the age of 29. This year marks my second time seeing this show, and I fully intend it to become an annual tradition.

Girls Guns & Glory
Last year, the show was at Lizard Lounge; this year, they upgraded to The Sinclair which I think is a better venue for this show (don’t get me wrong, I love Lizard Lounge but The Sinclair is a great venue). It holds more people too!

Funky? Check! White? Check! Honkies???
I try not to have expectations of shows, but whatever expectations I may have had of this show by The Funky White Honkies were blown out of the water by the reality of it!

The Funky White Honkies
I had never been to a show where the staging was destroyed at the end of the night! It seemed to be a gentle destruction – the drum kits were gently tipped over and the guitar looked like it was playable after restringing – but it was fun to watch Dinty Child create the mess!

2015 By The Numbers
A couple of years ago, a friend suggested I put together some statistics about my year in music. I am continuing the tradition this year, since I saw more shows than ever!
Go out and hear live music! The musicians will be most appreciative!
Boston Premiere Of Film About Janis Joplin
For those of you who love music documentary films (and who does not), the new documentary film on Janis Joplin, “JANIS: LITTLE GIRL BLUE”, will be shown for a week-long run from January 8th through the 14th at the Regent Theatre in Arlington.
My Top Ten Shows of 2015!
I saw 224 shows in 2015. Yes, I know, that sounds like an insane number considering I have a day job that is completely unrelated to music. How would I choose my top ten, with another fifteen as runners-up? All the shows except one were at least very good, and I thought that narrowing the list would not be easy.
It turned out not to be difficult at all. The top ten (or eleven as you will read below) were clear to me, as were the runners-up.

Happy New Year With Thanks
As 2015 comes to an end, I am filled with gratitude for each and every one of you. This has been an amazing year of music, both the shows I have seen and those I have only read about. I am indeed lucky to have you reading my words and enjoying my photographs.
To the musicians I have met, thank you for doing what you do so well. I hope you have continued success! And to the publicists who have worked with me, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cannot express how grateful I am for the opportunities you have given me in 2015.
I wish you all a happy new year. May 2016 bring much love, good health, lots of laughter, and peace on earth. And of course great live music!
See you next year!
