Regattabar was a Roomful of Blues!

I had not seen Roomful of Blues in about twenty years, and even though the members of the band have changed in that time, the band’s roots are the same. Their recent appearance at Regattabar showed that they continue to be worth seeing.

What a history Roomful of Blues has! Founded 48 years ago, this Rhode Island based band plays horns-heavy Chicago blues with swing and Cajun mixed in for good measure.

Three Powerhouse Guitarists Amazed At The Narrows

I was a very lucky person to be able to see the first of the David Bromberg, Larry Campbell, and David Hidalgo shows which was held at The Narrows Center for the Arts recently.

I apologize that my photos are not as good as usual; there were a lot of mics on stage that proved tough to shoot around.

Newport Folk Festival Started The 2015 Rolling Lineup Announcements

I’m still a relative newcomer to the Newport Folk Festival, compared to friends who have been attending for 20+ years. The first year I attended was 2012 and I think it will be a part of my life for years to come.

For the past couple of years, NFF decided to do rolling announcements of the lineup rather than announcing the entire lineup at the same time. It’s part frustrating (because I want to know NOW) but mostly exciting (who’s going to be announced NEXT).

Fabulous Return to New England by The Iguanas

I have been waiting almost twenty years to see The Iguanas, one of my favorite bands, at Johnny D’s again and they did not disappoint!

Sure, I saw them last summer at the Green River Festival, but seeing them in their own show was what I needed. My patience was rewarded.

We Are All Baker

WeAreBaker, a duo project of Mishal Moore and Richard Cortez, delivered one of the most emotional music experiences I have ever had. I believe everyone in the audience at the Extended Play Sessions felt the same.

This is going to be a difficult review to write because I doubt my words will adequately convey the intensity of this performance.

The Subdudes Are Anything But Subdued

The Subdudes is one of my favorite bands and I had not seen them in at least fifteen years, so I made sure to see them at their rare area appearance at the Narrows Center for the Arts last week.

The Subdudes

The Subdudes

Hailing from New Orleans, The Subdudes are a roots rock band that incorporates swamp rock, Cajun/zydeco, blues, and soul into their unique sound. The story goes that they were originally called The Continentals, but a club owner asked if they could tone down the volume so they were subdued.

The Rockabilly Filly Was In The House

When I know that I am seeing a rockabilly act, I expect it to be a rocking show. What I did not expect from this show at the Extended Play Sessions was the talent that is Rosie Flores, appearing with Dale Watson’s The Lone Stars.

Dale Watson was supposed to appear but he had laryngitis so Rosie graciously agreed to perform in his stead, with his band. Read the rest of this entry
