Superb Music By A Master
Luther Dickinson appeared at Brighton Music Hall recently with his band called The Cooperators; I was eyeing it, but after a friend who saw one of their other shows told me I must see it, I realized it would be worth doing a two-show night to see it. Wow, what an incredible show! I did not know what to expect, other than great music, but this show exceeded any expectations I may have had.

Wonderful Music, Disrespectful Audience
I first saw Family and Friends open for another band several months ago and loved their folk-rock music as well as their on-stage chemistry, so I was thrilled to see them return for a headlining show at Great Scott.

The Energy Exploded From The Stage
Usually when I review a show, I highlight the headliner and devote less space to the opener. In the case of this show at the House of Blues with The Devil Makes Three as the headliner and Langhorne Slim and the Law as the opener, I am breaking that pattern and focusing on Langhorne Slim.

Hitch A Ride On Rayland Baxter’s Rising Star
I was very excited to see this show at Brighton Music Hall; I bought Rayland Baxter’s album when I was in Nashville last year (he was in the local artists section) and it has been on regular rotation on my iPod since then.

Rayland Baxter
Rayland (sometimes stylized as rayLand) is an alt-country musician who has recently broken into the national scene. I believe he played at the Newport Folk Festival in 2014 or 2015, but did not release an album until last year.

Loving Tribute To Lead Belly At Carnegie Hall
Where do I start to tell the story of Lead Belly Fest, an amazing tribute to Huddie ‘Lead Belly’ Ledbetter held at Carnegie Hall, first staged at Royal Albert Hall in London last year? Carnegie Hall was the site of Lead Belly’s last performance in 1949, so it was appropriate that the second staging of Lead Belly Fest occurred on the same stage.

Lead Belly
Organized by Paul Puccioni to pay homage to the person about whom George Harrison said, “No Lead Belly, no Beatles”, this show honored the memory of one of the biggest, if not the biggest, influences on music in the 20th century.
