It’s been a very long 14 months for all of us, not only lovers of live music. We are excited to announce that the Lowell Summer Music Series will be able to present a season of live music this summer. Based on current federal guidelines, they are not sure when Boarding House Park will be cleared to host full-capacity events. The intention is to host all events at Boarding House Park if it is permitted, but they have secured Lowell Memorial Auditorium as a back-up location to ensure there will be live music in downtown Lowell this summer!Read the rest of this entry
The Rides is a type of band commonly known as a supergroup. Composed of Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield, Crosby Still & Nash, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Manassas), Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Kenny Wayne Shepherd band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience tours), and Barry Goldberg (The Electric Flag, Steve Miller Band), the trio first got together three years ago to record an album and tour in support of the album.
Where do I start to tell the story of Lead Belly Fest, an amazing tribute to Huddie ‘Lead Belly’ Ledbetter held at Carnegie Hall, first staged at Royal Albert Hall in London last year? Carnegie Hall was the site of Lead Belly’s last performance in 1949, so it was appropriate that the second staging of Lead Belly Fest occurred on the same stage.
Organized by Paul Puccioni to pay homage to the person about whom George Harrison said, “No Lead Belly, no Beatles”, this show honored the memory of one of the biggest, if not the biggest, influences on music in the 20th century.
This is an event worth traveling to New York City to see – a tribute to Lead Belly at Carnegie Hall! Of course any event at that revered venue is worth seeing, but I think this one is going to be spectacular!
Tickets are still available through Carnegie Hall. Concert proceeds go to non-profit organizations The Association to Benefit Children and Project ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). You can go hear amazing music and help some great causes.
I believe this was considered a true co-bill, since each performed a full 90-minute set; regardless, it was a terrific show that truly showcased their talent.
