Another Marvelous Club d’Elf Experience

If you have been following this blog (which everyone should do!), you’ll know how much I love Club d’Elf. And how often I go to their bi-weekly Friday night residency at Lizard Lounge.

Club d’Elf was founded 16+ years ago by Mike Rivard, and is a collaboration among extraordinarily talented musicians who vary from show to show. Read the rest of this entry

A Magical Production of ‘The Tempest’

First, let me admit that I’m not an enormous fan of Shakespeare’s plays. I read a few plays in high school that were required reading and have read nothing of his since then.

That being said, I loved the current American Repertory Theatre production of ‘The Tempest‘! Read the rest of this entry

Marvelous Blend of African Music And Jazz

I love both African music and jazz; Felipe Salles integrated the two styles to create something new and exhilarating!

Felipe and his band held a CD release show at Regattabar last night and I was fortunate to be in the audience for the excellent show.

A friend introduced me to Angela’s music last year but we have been looking for a local concert to attend. What better place than at Alternate Root TV!

An Excellent Jazz Performance At Alternate Root TV

On Friday night, I had the privilege of seeing the Brad Ellenberg Quintet in an Extended Play Session at Alternate Root TV.

AJ Croce Crosses Genres

When I heard that A.J. Croce was appearing at Regattabar last week, I knew I needed to attend his show.

A.J. Croce

A.J. Croce

Yes, he is the son of Jim Croce who was one of the singer-songwriters I loved in my teens (and who died tragically in a plane crash at the age of 30). A.J., however, has a style that I find very different from his father’s pop/folk-rock style.

Terrific Intimate Blues Performance

What a treat it was to see Janiva Magness and Xenia Dunford in such an intimate setting as Extended Play at Alternate Root TV!

I will fully describe the venue and the Sessions in another post, but suffice it to say that this venue imitates your living room, both for the artist and the audience.

Dancing The Night Away With The Mavericks

Yes, I saw The Mavericks two nights in a row – they are that good!

Sunday night’s show was at The Wilbur which afforded me a different experience than the previous evening did. The floor was general admission standing, so I decided to stand at the stage rather than sit in the front row of the mezzanine. I am so glad I did.

‘Sugar Man’, Alive And Well At Boston’s Orpheum Theatre

Finally, I scored a ticket to see Sixto Rodriguez, the enigmatic subject of the film ‘Searching for Sugar Man‘! I became aware of Rodriguez two years ago and have been trying since then.

He has been playing to ever-increasing audience sizes, so instead of seeing him at an intimate venue such as Johnny D’s where he played 18 months ago, I saw him at the Orpheum Theatre which is not huge but is not intimate either.
