That’s Right, Lowell Loves Lyle Lovett

For the fourth time in the past six seasons of the Lowell Summer Music Series, Lyle Lovett played to a sold-out (or nearly sold-out) crowd in Boarding House Park; three times with his Large Band and once with his smaller Acoustic Band.

I fall more in love with Lovett each time I see him. He is one of the classier musicians I have seen, in addition to being one of the most talented and generous.

Gorgeous Evening Of Acoustic Music Under The Stars

Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts presents a summer concert series that is held – weather permitting – in the courtyard in the middle of the buildings, and it is one of the best ways to spend a summer evening I know.

This week’s headliner was Sam Lee, a British traditional music specialist who is touring the United States for the first time.

What Is Hip? Tower Of Power, That’s What!

I am sure it was with reluctance that the first appearance of Tower of Power at the Lowell Summer Music Series was moved indoors due to inclement weather. TOP, as they are known, is a dance band and the indoor space is not as conducive to dancing as Boarding House Park.

Still, TOP brought much so energy and talent to the stage that evening that, in the long run, nobody minded sitting in a high school auditorium.

Ted Drozdowski’s Scissormen Rocked The House

On Saturday night, I left the mellowness of the Gordon Lightfoot show at the Lowell Summer Music Series and headed to The Back Page Jazz and Comedy Club to see Ted Drozdowski’s Scissormen tear the roof off the venue!

Sometimes a transition such as that can be jarring; this was not. Maybe I was simply in the mood to be rocked. More likely, though, it was because the music was terrific.

Come Hear Sweet Soul Music At The NEW Extended Play Sessions

The first show at the NEW Extended Play Sessions at the Fallout Shelter is on Friday, August 7th, 2015! It’s Gedeon Luke and The People!

Hailing from the streets of Memphis, soul music flows through Gedeon Luke’s veins in rainbow-colored hues. Weaned on the gospel infused sounds of Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield and Al Green and inspired by the rock ‘n roll passion of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Gedeon combines the greatest elements of the rich history of a musical upbringing to create a sound that is completely his own.

Another Great Day At Newport Folk Festival

It is impossible not to hear great music at the Newport Folk Festival. The first day of this year’s Festival was fantastic, with possibly the best closing set I have heard to date. Saturday’s music was at least equal to the previous day.

The day was gorgeous, blue skies with some high, wispy clouds. The temperature was moderate. All in all, a perfect day awaited as we patiently sat at the gates.

First Raw Ruminations On The 2015 Newport Folk Festival

I am still on cloud 327 after returning from three incredible days at the Newport Folk Festival. I want to get some of my feelings out – before looking at the 2,500+/- photographs I shot or doing too much talking about the Festival with my friends (which honestly has been hard to avoid). My usual, full review of each day with photos will follow.

This Promises To Be An Exciting Weekend In Boston

Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled to be attending the Newport Folk Festival this year.  I am, however, sad to miss these FREE events in downtown Boston that are happening simultaneously with Newport.

This will be the fourth annual Boston Summer Arts Weekend event.  Set for July 25-26, 2015 at Copley Square in the Back Bay, the event features a wide range of eclectic performances. Can I mention again that it is all free?
