A Special Evening With A Couple Of Singer-Songwriters
There was a lot of emotion at The Extended Play Sessions last week when Ian Fitzgerald and Brian Carroll, Boston-based singer-songwriters, performed although I doubt any of us in attendance had a clue about it.
Ian and Brian have separate careers but they came together this night to perform both alone and together.
The Lonesome Trio Regaled Us With Story And Song
My review of this terrific show by The Lonesome Trio at Club Passim appears on No Depression.
The Spirit of Hank Williams Lives!
Girls Guns and Glory, a Boston-based country band, is riding high these days due to the justifiably great press its Hank Williams tribute album (and the shows dedicated to that album) is receiving. The Extended Play Sessions hosted them for a more-than-sold-out session last week and they brought their A game for this Hank Williams tribute performance.
The band performs original songs as well, and until recently had performed the tribute shows only about a half-dozen times per year. I was lucky enough to see one of the traditional New Year’s Day shows so I knew how good this show would be.
Fine Entertainment At The Hands Of Garland Jeffreys
My review of this superb Garland Jeffreys show appears on No Depression.
The Folk Tradition Lives!
On Friday I was privileged to be in the audience at the Regent Theatre for a fundraiser for Folk New England (FNE), an organization dedicated to preserving the music and the ephemera of the folk revival movement in New England. The size of the audience was smaller than the organization and artists deserved, but hopefully the great enthusiasm made up for it.
The evening started with brief welcome speeches by Betsy Siggins, founding director of FNE and Brian Quinn, Executive Director of FNE.
Excellent Storytelling Punctuated This Americana Show
Writer-Songsinger Amelia White Brought It On
I was introduced to Amelia White and Sergio Webb almost a year ago when the East Nashvillians came to The Extended Play Sessions for the first time, so I knew that their return visit would be fabulous.
For this show, they brought the Blue Souvenirs with them which added immeasurably to the show.
