A Fundraiser For Your Consideration

The Lowell Festival Foundation is a non-profit that promotes and enriches cultural life in Greater Lowell through musical, social, and educational programming. Every summer they produce the Lowell Folk Festival and the Lowell Summer Music Series.

These events have significant positive effects on the local economy, the quality of life for residents of Greater Lowell and beyond, and support the City of Lowell’s reputation as a center for arts and culture.

For three decades, generous supporters have helped to sustain these events and Treasure the Traditions. New in 2017, the two programs have joined forces and the  fundraiser will benefit both events. Will you join them?

Suggested Donation: $50 includes hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, entertainment, silent auction, & raffles.

Great Young Americana Artists Close The Second Season Of OnStage! At The Chevalier Theatre

I had the opportunity to cover a fabulous show recently at The Chevalier Theatre On Stage! Series at which the members of all three Americana bands are friends! I have seen each band perform a number of times, but this triple bill was a rare chance to see them in one show.

Is The Music Disturbing Your Conversation?

Anyone who has attended a concert with me knows that one of my pet peeves when I am out hearing live music is the audience talking (followed closely by people who sing LOUDLY along with the music without being invited to join by the artist). Part of the reason why last night’s sold-out John Moreland show at The Sinclair in Cambridge, Massachusetts was so fabulous was that the audience was so quiet, I could have heard a pin drop! Old Crow Medicine Show Does Dylan Better Than Dylan

Is that a sacrilegious statement? Possibly, but even the most ardent fans of Bob Dylan (and specifically of his seminal album Blonde on Blonde) have to admit that Dylan’s vocals have never been what drew his fans to him.

Old Crow Medicine Show

Old Crow Medicine Show, a band that reveres Dylan, is currently touring to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of Blonde on Blonde. They may be putting their bluegrass/Americana spin on the songs, but there is no doubt they are paying homage to one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Red Dirt Country Music Strikes Again!

“Red Dirt” music refers to the specific style of country music from Oklahoma and refers to the color of the soil there. The Turnpike Troubadours are one of the best known bands of that genre touring today, and they sold out Brighton Music Hall recently.

The Lowell Summer Music Series Lineup Is Now Complete

Another personal and crowd favorite returns to the Lowell Summer Music Series and I am excited that he will appear for the third time on Friday, August 18th! I cannot see Buddy Guy too often and if you have not yet seen this living legend, make it a point to be at Boarding House Park this night.
