An Intimate Afternoon With Bob Weir

I was lucky indeed to spend part of an afternoon with Bob Weir at AmericanaFest, along with 212 other lucky music lovers! The event was held in the Ford Theatre at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, which partnered with the organization for a number of special events during the festival and conference.

Part interview, part live performance, and part broadcast from Bob’s new album, Blue Mountain, this was 75 minutes more or less that was incredibly well spent!

It Was A Perfect Night At Boarding House Park

I am biased when it comes to The Lone Bellow; they were one of my two favorite sets at the 2013 Newport Folk Festival and my love for them has not diminished. Friday night’s show at the Lowell Summer Music Series was another superb performance by this Americana/indie folk band.

It was a hot and humid evening and that might have affected everyone’s energy level, but the band delivered their trademark energetic show and gained many new fans.

The Mavericks Never Bring Me Down!

Despite the title of one of The Mavericks better-known songs (“All You Ever Do is Bring Me Down”), this band always delivers a fantastic show that keeps me smiling for days after the show!

This show at the South Shore Music Circus was no different, with one caveat which I mention at the end of this review.

A Little Bit Of Heaven With Los Lonely Boys

Despite a long-standing love of Los Lonely Boys, this show at The Cabot Theatre was only my third time seeing them (and one of those times was at an outdoor festival on the first day of a brutal heat wave)!

Ruby Rose Fox Is A Must-See Up-and-Coming Artist

There is a Boston-based singer-songwriter named Ruby Rose Fox. Do not forget her name because she (along with her backing vocalists, the Gloria Steinems) will be a big star in the not-too-distant future.

Described as a vocal powerhouse of soul-driven edgy rock ‘n roll, Ruby stuns a crowd when the first notes pour from her mouth. The first time I saw her, without having heard any of her music, my jaw dropped and I was hooked.

Love Is Love Is Love Is The Indigo Girls

On another beautiful summer evening last week, the Indigo Girls returned for their eighth triumphant appearance at the Lowell Summer Music Series. No other artist has played the Series as often or consistently sold as well as they have!

It Was An Evilicious Night, Indeed!

I am biased when it comes to Michelle ‘Evil Gal’ Willson; she is a friend, a cousin of a life-long friend, and a great singer. Still, I say without reservation that she is a consummate entertainer who is worth your time to see. She performed her brand of jazz/blues/soul music recently at The Extended Play Sessions at the Fallout Shelter.

Classic Rockers At Their Finest!

It can be risky to see aging rock stars perform; they might be playing guitar with arthritic hands, or their voices (which naturally change as they age) cannot hit the notes they still try to hit. Neither could be further from the truth for Peter Frampton, who appeared at the Lowell Summer Music Series last weekend.

An Evening In Singer-Songwriter Heaven

I had never seen Mary Chapin Carpenter perform despite wanting to see her, so I was thrilled when her show was announced for the Lowell Summer Music Series this year. I grew even more excited about the show when I read that Rose Cousins would open the show.

Even though a brief unexpected shower occurred a few minutes before MCC was to take the stage, the audience’s spirits were not dampened by the ten-minute delay waiting for the rain to end.

This Was A Terrific Rock Show Under Starry Skies!

The Lowell Summer Music Series is an outdoor – weather permitting – venue, and local favorites Guster wanted this show to be outdoors. Their wish was granted due to wise weather-watching by the people who run the Series. What started off as a terrible afternoon ended up as a perfect evening under the stars.

This was my first time seeing Guster, despite the band’s numerous shows in the Boston area over the years they have been together.
