Mind-Blowing Music at Lizard Lounge
This was the sixth time I’ve seen Club d’Elf this year at Lizard Lounge, and it was quite possibly the best – up to now! Okay, I am a bit biased because David Tronzo is a friend and whenever he appears with the band I try to attend.
Club d’Elf does a (mostly) bi-weekly residency at Lizard Lounge and has a devoted following.
You Need to See Gangstagrass!
I am in love with Gangstagrass! There, I’ve said it… This writer, who has seen a lot of bluegrass bands but never a hip-hop band, loves the hip-hop bluegrass that is Gangstagrass!
They performed to a less than sold-out, but very enthusiastic, crowd at Church of Boston on Saturday night. Read the rest of this entry
Wisewater Entertained and Enchanted
I expected the Wisewater show to be a good one at an Extended Play Session for Alternate Root TV; one of the members, Forrest O’Connor, is the son of fiddler extraordinaire Mark O’Connor. This review will not focus on that, other than to say Forrest’s apple lands right under his father’s tree yet he is a completely different musician.
Wisewater bills itself as country pop; while that is accurate, I bristle at the term ‘pop’ so I won’t use it here. Read the rest of this entry
Foot-Stompin’, Loud-Hollerin’ Roots Extravaganza at Alternate Root TV
Alternate Root TV announced that roots musicians The Howlin’ Brothers will be the guest artist at an Extended Play session on Tuesday, September 30th at 7 pm. Their music offers a modern twist on old-timey music.
North of Nashville Wowed
I love the name of the band North of Nashville that is based quite a bit north of Nashville in Portland, Maine. I also love the band!
Last Friday night, we were treated to a wonderful show by this band at an Extended Play Session for Alternate Root TV.
Alternate Root TV Presents A Son Of Nashville
Alternate Root TV announced that Americana/pop duo Wisewater will be the guest artist at an Extended Play session on Friday, September 26th at 7 pm. Even though Forrest O’Connor is not based in Nashville at this time, his roots are there.
Another Stringed Instrument Virtuoso Performs
A night after hearing some banjo mastery, I had the privilege of seeing guitar master Leo Kottke perform at The Wilbur Theatre.
I am fairly sure this was the first time I have seen Leo perform, and it was worth waiting for! Read the rest of this entry
Dueling Banjos, Bela and Abby Style
Béla Fleck is one of my favorite performers; I have seen him many times in a number of iterations, including a show with the Sparrow Quartet, Abigail Washburn‘s band which included Béla.
This show at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy was Béla and Abby and their banjos, and it was a stunner! (Sorry, photography was not allowed; I am seeing them again in a few days, so I will probably upload some photos from that show here.) Read the rest of this entry
Outlaw Country Will Be In The House At Alternate Root TV
Just as I was jonesing for a fix of Nashville, Alternate Root TV announced that North of Nashville will be the guest artist at an Extended Play session on Friday, September 20th at 7 pm.
