Hot Music And Heat Ruled Day Two Of Green River Festival
What a day of incredible music! The first full day of the 2015 Green River Festival had a fantastic schedule, as I have come to expect from this Festival.
Despite the unrelenting heat (which was worse the following day), people danced, paraded, availed themselves of the cooling tent, and generally had an amazing day.
Dave Mason Brought A Traffic Jam To Lowell
… And it’s the only kind of Traffic Jam I enjoy!
Dave Mason made a triumphant return to the Lowell Summer Music Series last night as part of his Traffic Jam 2015 tour. The crowd was fairly large on this gorgeous night that earlier in the day threatened rain which never arrived.

1970s (And Beyond) Rock Is Alive And Kicking
Playing to a nearly sold-out crowd at the Lowell Summer Music Series, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo delivered a fabulous, high-energy show that certainly wowed me!
I am not sure what I expected from this 35th anniversary plus one tour, but the show exceeded any expectations I may have had!
Initial Musings On The Green River Festival
Yes, the weekend was brutally hot with unrelenting sun at the Green River Festival. More important though, the weekend was full of unrelentingly wonderful music (among other things)!
Think Outside The Box!
Two years ago, Ted Cutler presented the first Outside The Box free performing arts festival in downtown Boston. I went to many of the performances, in part because I work downtown so I could sneak over for a long lunch but mostly because this was too good an opportunity to miss.
That year, the performances spread across nine days and two areas (Boston Common and City Hall Plaza). This year, the event will begin on Tuesday evening, July 14 and run through July 19. All events will take place on the Boston Common.
An Evening Of Love Songs With A Righteous Babe!
This was not Ani DiFranco‘s first appearance at the Lowell Summer Music Series, but I missed her appearance six years ago and nothing was going to make me miss this show.
As she took the stage, DiFranco related that when she was assembling the set list, it suddenly hit her that she would perform love songs for this show since it had been a troublesome few weeks (in the news, not for her personally). What a brilliant decision!

Local Favorites Pay Tribute To Alex Chilton
Full disclosure: when I was asked if I wanted to attend a tribute to the late Alex Chilton at Brighton Music Hall, I had to research him because his name was not familiar. As soon as I saw he was in the Box Tops, who had a huge hit with ‘The Letter’, I realized I knew at least the beginning of his career. I did not know he is considered the inventor of indie and alternative rock.
Holly George-Warren wrote the definitive biography of Chilton, A Man Called Destruction: The Life and Music of Alex Chilton, From Box Tops to Big Star to Backdoor Man, and she opened the evening with some readings and reminiscences of Chilton. She was joined for a brief conversation about Chilton by Jody Stephens, the lone surviving member of Big Star.
